Thanksgiving is one of the holidays that I remember from my childhood. What started with a day when families, friends and neighbors gathered to celebrate a bountiful harvest, it became the holiday, Thanksgiving. The last last gathering of my family many years ago, the Thanksgiving after my mother passed. I knew my father, who enjoyed giving parties, would love a large gathering for Thanksgiving. I planned and invited all of our relatives to celebrate at his house for dinner. My brother was upset that I had scheduled a party when his wife and children could not attend. I just remembered that it was my dad I was thinking about and as it turns out, it is the last time I remember us all being together. There was the usual fussing that went on in our family, but the meal and time was enjoyed by all, especially my dad.
Today, in an age when transportation and technology are at it's best, my family is scattered to the wind. But my husband and I will be enjoying the company of our daughter who has set aside the day to come, enjoy our company, a turkey dinner and a ball game afterwards. We will be making more memories...I am thankful that I am still able to cook our turkey and enjoy it, thankful for my husband and daughter and for a day we can celebrate together.
Wishing you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving!
