This weeks challenge over on the City Crafter Challenge Blog, is brought by Linda Robinson. Challenge 45 is to make a one layer card with, "nothing on it!". I love one layer cards, don't do them very often, but it gives me a chance to water color! Be sure and check out the designers cards and give it a go!
This card was made using my favorite nature stamp set. When I saw the Daisies in the photo Linda used, I thought of this set. I have used this set many times and I will use it many more. I love and miss all the birds that came to visit when I lived in Colorado. I used a Kraft card base to which I glued the white cs over it. I do this because the Kraft cs is heavier. I started by stamping my bird on the white with Stazon ink. I cut a stamped bird to use as a mask, then stamped everything else in Black Stazon ink. Then all I had left to do was use my inks and a blender pen and watercolor. My inks were Bashfull Blue, Marina Mist, Basic Gray, Chocolate Chip, Cajun Craze, Poppy Parade, Real Red, More Mustard, So Saffron, Kiwi Kiss, Certainly Celery, and Always Artichoke. When I finished water coloring, I gently ran the brayer across the top and sides, and used my sponge dauber to fill in at the bottom. Since I did not use water color paper, once the ink was down it was there to stay.
Remember the water color tutorial using a cut out bird? This bird required more work in order to get it to pop! I love the way this card turned out. This card was designed around the stamps, the placement of the flora was done strictly by having done it over and over. I have painted scenes so many times, it is like a permanent canvas in my head. I got lucky, because it turned out the way I intended it. Living in Colorado gave me the chance to experience living in the wild. My back yard was the run for all kinds of animals and birds. One year we had wild turkeys passing through, my cats were totally freaked out!The brush was never cleared and trees fell after a snow storm. It is very unlike living in a development where you have a lawn that you have to mow. Glenda, that is where the idea for this card came.
I do enjoy visiting everyone's blogs and seeing their cards. I go to enjoy what each person makes and almost always go away feeling uplifted! When doing a water color, my inspiration comes from within, from my experiences. That is why I said last night that each card is different. Each person has their own resources for collecting inspiration. That is what makes all our cards different! Hope you enjoy the card. I enjoyed the challenge, thank you Linda! Have a great Friday, that is Linda's favorite day!
